Geriatric Massage - Level I Geriatric Massage can play a powerful role in the physical and emotional well-being of people in their sixties, seventies, eighties, and beyond. March 2, 3 & 4, 2012 Geriatric Massage- Level I (18 CE Hours) Instructor: Sharon Puszko, LMT (Day-Break) Hours: 6:30 pm-9:30 pm (Fri.) 9:00 am-5:30 pm (Sat. & Sun.) $300 (4 weeks prior to the class) $350 thereafter (Min. Dep $100) Geriatric Massage I will offer the Massage Therapist fundamental knowledge that will allow him/her to confidently and successfully work with older clients. Massage can play a powerful role in the improvement and maintenance of the physical and emotional well-being of people in their sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond. Older people vary greatly from each other even though they may be of the same age. The therapist must be able to assess the general condition of each individual client and adjust his/her work accordingly. This course will cover: Physiological, psychological, and sociological aspects of aging Client assessment, cautions, and contraindications Modification of standard massage techniques and development of special methods to suit each client’s special needs Practical hands-on work with older people How to establish a geriatric massage practice
