Experienced prenatal massage therapists know that relief from musculoskeletal aches and pains is the primary motivator for their clients seeking therapy, more often in their back and pelvis. In this webinar, we will overview why their growing bellies strain their structural integrity, create trigger points and functional adaptations, and result in backache, ribcage pain, and headaches. Because these same sensations may also be signs of developing prenatal complications, we will establish criteria that you can use in assessing whether and how to proceed when they occur, and when to refer for medical or midwifery evaluation. With so much attention needed on the “pregnant pelvis,” we will also establish safe guidelines for avoiding unwanted reflexes at the sacrum and maintaining integrity and alignment when the pelvis is instable. The lumbosacral joint will be the focus of our technique spotlight.
