The Board of Directors of the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education presented an analysis of and feedback on Version One of the Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge (MTBOK) to the Steward Group on October 19, 2011. With the support and encouragement of the Stewards, the Alliance presented its work to the profession for commentary leading to the development of a potential second version of the MTBOK.
We strongly believe that massage therapy education and training programs will benefit from this extensive review of the MTBOK. After receiving excellent feedback from massage industry leaders, our work is now being used by the ELAP working group. We look forward to participating in a second MTBOK version in 2014.
In the spirit of keeping the MTBOK a living document, the Alliance is going ahead with this effort to address perceived shortcomings in Version One. We believe that an improved MTBOK would be more useful to school administrators in developing curricula, state regulators in developing state laws, and accrediting agencies in developing accreditation standards.
