These classes will teach you the tools to work with women before, during, and after pregnancy. Students will learn a set of techniques and standards to be used during pregnancy, labor and postpartum that explores the physiological, structural and emotional well-being of both the mother and her child. Students will be able to understand and recognize contraindications, possible complications, and risk factors of pregnancy, comfort techniques for labor, and restoring musculature and postural integrity postpartum. Early bonding in the womb is explained, as well as, events that can change the bonding during labor, the immediate hours after birth, and attachment issues postpartum. Students will enjoy lots of hands-on practice with pregnant mother volunteers, a mock labor among peers, and postpartum restoration. Prerequisites: This program is designed for continuing education for already Licensed Massage Therapists, RN, PT, OT, Midwives, Doulas or other medical professionals with understanding of female reproductive anatomy. Other bodywork students & practitioners seeking the theoretical understanding to safely adapt their own protocols and techniques to perinatal demands may be allowed with prior approval. Required Class Materials: Bring 3 sets of sheets, 6 pillows (at least 2 king size), wear or bring comfortable clothing for practical portion of class. Massage lotion or cream. NCBTMB Approved Provider #451668-11 Certificate of Completion provided to participants who are on time with 100% attendance and satisfactory participation in the class activities. “Certification in Perinatal Massage” offered through The Foundation for Early Bonding, requires the successful completion of a written, and practical exam in each area.
